Keep our servers cool when the power goes out

Our client, needed a turnkey power solution to be provided for a large national data centre. The data centre needed to be certain that their equipment could be kept cool in a power cut, and with a large server array in an enclosed space, that means a lot of heat being pumped out. If the power to their massive cooling system failed, it would severely compromise this client’s ability to provide a service to its customers.

JS Power were asked to find a solution that would keep their client’s power-hungry coolant systems satisfied should their prime power ever fail.

Linked diesel standby generators, sound attenuated

Working with and on-behalf of the Electrical Contractor, JS Power supplied a pair of 1650kVA containerised generators to provide backup in the event of a power failure.
With space at a premium around these massive generators, a certain amount of innovation was needed. A remote radiator system – a solution engineered especially for this job – was installed on each of the generators, allowing them to slot perfectly into the space allowed.

Synchronising the output of these massive diesel generators allows them to provide a total power output of 3300kVA, enough to keep most rooms cooled – even a room stuffed with server equipment. This system was already installed with existing Uninterruptible Power Supplies, so in this instance we didn’t have to provide them.
