Load testing a Data Centre

Load testing a Data Centre

Brief:

  • Perform a series of rolling load tests on 18 generators based at a Data Centre.
  • Analyse the data
  • Investigate and report any issues
  • Perform a trend analysis over the course of the programme
  • Provide the client with full health check of their equipment.

Solution:

JS Power, working with the client and their electrical engineers has put together a tailor made programme of works to test the generators on the Data Centres. Regardless of the size of generator being tested, each set has to be tested in the same way so the results can be compared to each other.

Using a high tech load bank and the latest computer software, each generator is tested over a period of four hours at various loads. Readings are taken every second and recorded via the computer software ready for a full analysis report to be produced. With a clear indication of whether the generator has passed or failed during each load change, the health of the generator can be determined.

Our highly trained engineers also take manual readings and perform visual checks to make sure that the generator is performing as it should.
With the first round of tests completed, the second round of testing will show any deterioration in performance of the sets.
