Let there be Light!
Brief:
Silenced, off-grid power supply
We were approached by a client who wanted to use an old airfield in the South of England for a container storage depot. Obviously, with the shipping and haulage industry in 24 hour operation, the site, though far from a grid connection, needed an energy supply to power on-site lighting. To maintain site safety, lighting needed to be resistant to power shortages.
The company also had a strict environmental policies for noise pollution which had to be adhered to.
JS Power Solution:
Two canopied generators and an automated switchover
Working with the main electrical contractor, we at JS Power designed a fully automatic changeover system comprising two identical diesel generators, an intelligent Auto Transfer Panel and a Bulk Storage Tank.
Power is supplied from one generator; the second set remains on standby until a failure occurs. Also incorporated is a programmable cycle timer that automatically switches on and turns off the generators in sequence ensuring the same amount of hours are run on each set. This means that the generator standing by is not prone to the faults brought on through neglect
The external, 20,000 litre bunded fuel tank feeds both generators and allows the site to have minimal re-fueling. Also, to satisfy the clients requirements for noise, each generator was set within a canopy to attenuate noise to 75dBA @ 1m – equivalent to a busy street.
Equipment:
- Two x 65kVA Super Silenced Generating Sets
- One x Automatic Changeover System with Timer Controls
- One x 20,000 litre External Bunded Fuel Tank
- Sound attenuation canopy – 75dBA @ 1m
