Keeping Cool: When the Mains isn’t big Enough

Keeping Cool: When the Mains isn’t big Enough

Brief:

Provide a solution to keep our data centre’s air conditioning systems running when our incoming mains supply is being upgraded.

Solution:

Working with our client JS Power Limited supplied 2 × 1000kVA Prime rated MTU Diesel generator sets, supplied in a sound attenuated canopy, with a 20,000litre bunded base tank, which will run 24/7, while the incoming mains supply is upgraded over the next three years.

Because of the nature of the site, interruptions in power can be very costly. The system has been designed so that while one set is running, the other generator is on standby as with a normal mains failure system.

The issue comes when the duty generator requires servicing. The client requested that when this happens there should be no interruption in power being supplied to the air conditioning units.

The solution, using the Insight 6000 control panel the generators are designed to synchronise together and provides a ‘seamless’ transfer from one set to the other without interruption to the air conditioning units.

The duty of the generators can also be switched between the sets to ensure that each set runs a similar amount of hours throughout the year.
