Data Centre Goes Green

Data Centre Goes Green

Brief:

Secure, independent power supply

IT Data Centres are used for the safe storage of electronic data. Their business depends on a stable power supply and on being secure when faced with a total power cut. What’s more, this client wanted to ensure that any effects to the immediate and extended environment were minimised.

With the future capacity of UK mains power in some uncertainty, or in the hands of foreign governments (!), we don’t blame our clients for wanting to ensure their business will keep running when the lights go out around them.

JS Power Solution:

UPSs and biodiesel backup generators

Co-ordinating work with our client’s preferred electrical contractor, we designed a stable, stand-alone, power supply to fit the Data Centre’s needs.

2 × 120kVA Uninterrupted Power Supplies ensured that sensitive electronic equipment was protected from power fluctuation. To deal with total power loss, we installed 2×500 kVA biodiesel standby generators, ready to kick-in automatically in an emergency. Each generator acts as a standby, not only to the mains, but to each other as well.

To extend fuel refilling times, and to minimise environmental impact, we also supplied an 11,000 litre bunded fuel tank, with bunded pipework to both generators, ensuring that any leakage would be controlled.

  • 2×500 kVA biodiesel standby generators
  • 11,000 litre bunded fuel tank
  • bunded pipework
