Backing up Renewables
Brief:
Provide a backup power supply to our wind farm’s control room
Our client a major M & E installation company required a power protection package to keep the essential services in the control room of a new wind farm running, even when the grid it was supplying wasn’t.
Located on the North Yorkshire coast, a new wind farm, supplying renewable energy to the National Grid was in the process of being constructed. Before the power produced from these wind turbines could be exported to the grid, the control room had to be protected against any failure of the mains.
JS Power Solution:
60kVA prime rated diesel generator
Working closely with both the main contractor and their sub contractors, a 60kVA diesel generator with a sound attenuated canopy, a DEFRA complaint bunded base tank with a Mains failure specification was chosen as the right size for the project. To accommodate the size of the incoming mains supply, a 250Amp automatic transfer panel was also supplied.
With the dynamic nature of the project it was later decided to have a further 100Amp automatic transfer panel put on site. This panel would have two mains supplies coming in fed from alternative mains sub-stations.
Equipment
- JSP60, 60kVA Prime Powered Diesel with a Mains Failure Specification.
- ATP250, 250Amp per phase Automatic Transfer Panel
- ATP100, 100Amp mains to mains, Automatic Transfer Panel
