Standby generator load testing Don’t neglect your backup plan
Diesel standby generators can spend a long time waiting for that power cut before smoothly intercepting it. Even a regular test on light load leaves the standby generator prone to faults incurred through under-use or neglect. But load testing ensures that, when it’s needed, your standby generator is in peak condition to bear the load of your power requirements.
Diesel standby generators that are run only rarely on light load can build up fuel deposits in parts of the engine over time, which may leave your standby generator with reduced output when it is needed in an emergency.
JS Power’s mobile load bank can be brought to site, allowing the generator to be load tested safely in controlled conditions, at a time that suits your business. Each load test is designed for that particular generator. We test the generator over a range of loads, monitoring and data gathering constantly for 2 to 4 hours. We eventually test the overload capacity of the genset, giving the machine a thorough workout in the process.
What is produced is a health check of your standby generator, letting you know if it is ready to take the strain, or if any components have deteriorated and need replacement. Either way, after a JS Power load test, you know you are prepared in the event of a power cut.
Annual load testing is vital to ensure your diesel standby generator is fit for purpose when it matters, and some insurance companies demand it as part of their policies.
